John B. Cromer Biography

Mr. Cromer is a veteran trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience representing clients in high-stakes civil litigation across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and federal courts. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith, construction and real estate disputes, professional liability, personal injury, employment law, energy law, and general liability matters.

Mr. Cromer is known for his courtroom command, strategic case development, and results-driven advocacy. He represents insurers, businesses, and individuals in jury trials, bench trials, arbitration, and appellate proceedings, and approaches every case with a trial-ready mindset designed to maximize leverage and position clients for the strongest possible outcome.

He began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to Chief Judge Thomas D. Lambros of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, an experience that refined his analytical rigor and sharpened his litigation instincts. Since then, he has built a reputation as a seasoned courtroom advocate who has handled auto, product liability, transportation and trucking claims, catastrophic injury cases, food and beverage litigation, commercial contract disputes, real estate litigation, and high-exposure insurance coverage matters.

Mr. Cromer has authored hundreds of legal opinions, litigated Declaratory Judgment actions, and tried cases involving bad faith and extra-contractual exposure, giving him deep insight into risk valuation, settlement strategy, and jury dynamics. His credibility in complex matters has led to appointments as both a mediator and an expert witness.

While firmly grounded in trial advocacy, Mr. Cromer also recognizes when strategic resolution serves a client’s best interests. Most recently, he obtained formal mediation certification and has developed a growing ADR and mediation practice, allowing him to resolve disputes efficiently while preserving negotiating leverage built through trial preparation.

During law school at Capital University Law School, Mr. Cromer served as Managing Editor of the Capital University Law Review and received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Student Service. He is an alumnus of the Miami University Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg, a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the West Virginia Bar Association, and a frequent speaker on trial strategy, insurance litigation, and complex civil disputes.

Outside the courtroom, Mr. Cromer has spent more than a decade coaching youth basketball and supporting community athletics in leadership roles.

With comprehensive experience in auto, general and product liability matters, tractor-trailer/transportation claims, personal injury suits, and food and beverage litigation, Mr. Cromer has been asked to serve as a mediator, as well as an expert witness, in a variety of cases. He has authored hundreds of legal opinions, brought and defended Declaratory Judgment actions, and handled bad faith and extra-contractual litigation. This multi-faceted experience enables him to be an invaluable asset to BCC’s clients. A firm believer in alternative dispute resolution, in addition to trying cases in federal court, state court, the Board of Claims, and in arbitration, he also has vast experience in the effective use of mediation and summary jury trials.

While at Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Cromer served as the Managing Editor of the Capital University Law Review and received the Dean’s Award for Recognition of Outstanding Student Service. He is an alumnus of the Miami University Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg. As a member of the Allegheny County and West Virginia Bar Associations, he frequently presents at seminars on a variety of issues involving civil litigation.

For over a decade, Mr. Cromer has coached basketball for kindergartners through 4th graders and served as the Athletic Director and in multiple other positions with the Sacred Heart Athletic Association.
